About the project

History and Credits

The first Biodiversity Challenge was developed at IMEDEA (CSIC-UIB) in 2012. Researchers Giacomo Tavecchia and Meritxell Genovart, with the help of Juanjo Enseñat, designed a first survey to compare the knowledge children and young people of the Balearic Islands had of the local species with that of the exotic species. The experience of this first survey was very good, and even led to a collaboration with a scientist from Asturias, Paola Laiolo, and a scientific publication that showed this relative ignorance of the local fauna (Genovart et al 2013).

The European project OceanNight has allowed us to relaunch this survey and make it permanently available as a teaching resource and also to create a platform where we will upload other teaching tools that help us value and understand more our knowledge about Biodiversity.

    Acknowledgments

This platform aims to be a visually pleasing place, which helps us to appreciate biodiversity. That is why we have uploaded a series of images and videos taken by researchers, collaborators and friends who have given them to us and to whom we want to thank for their generosity. They are:
